Madras (Chennai) Day!

On 22nd of August Chennai (Knows as Madras) celebrated her 366th birthday without much buzz in the city. How many of you know what's Chennai day and what's the story behind it? Here it's, the history reveals that two Englishmen came to Chennai beach where the St. George Fort now during midterm of July-August 1639. And they bought small piece of land across the sands from local person and they named that part as Madras, and this is how Madras born. (Source: The Hindu)
There are few celebration happened here and there. But most of the Chennai-ite had any knowledge of that and they are busy with their daily schedule. The main event organized at Rajaji Hall, where the photo exhibition and painting contest happened. Apart from this not much happening in Chennai.
Among the youths Madras day didn't get much interest, you may witness the majority of senior citizens on the celebration venue. On other hand, Valentine day (consider to be Deepavali for youths) celebrated widely across India got elite place like other major celebration. But sad is most of the crowd celebrating it not aware of why it was celebrated. The only thing they know is a day out with their dear ones. Likewise why the youths pay their attention to other celebration like Madras day.
